Glossop hotels & bed and breakfastGlossop is situated in the north eastern corner of the Peak district and offers some good Bed and Breakfast accommodation close to local amenities. It is situated just outside the National Park boundary and lies north west of the famous Snake Pass, a perfect Bed and Breakfast spot to explore the Nothern areas of the Peak District from. In the nineteenth century it was a thriving cotton town, having no fewer than 46 mills. The name Glossop is thought to have originated in Saxon times, although there is evidence that the town was inhabited in the bronze age judging by the burial site at Shire Hill. A visit to Old Glossop is a must, it feels like you have stepped back in time with old weavers cottages surrounding the parish church. In 1866 the town became the Borough of Glossop and the centre moved from Old Glossop a few hundred yards west around Norfolk Square. From Glossop it is easy to explore the many Peak District attractions, with Derwent Valley, Kinder Scout and Sett Valley being some of the closest.
